To work from the fluid character of nature has compelled Lafuente to experiment in her approach to seeing, and to the process of transforming that sight into paint on canvas. Her perspective is conditioned by the ephemeral as form and space merge, “For a brief moment, I can see a composition so clearly, but like a kaleidoscope, the slightest change in light and atmosphere and the whole thing shifts.” Balancing surface and depths she plumbs the essence of what she paints, pulling a moment into a state of meditative tranquility.
Christine Lafuente earned her BA from Bryn Mawr College, a Certificate in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and her MFA from Brooklyn College (Dean's List). She is the recipient of the Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant. Widely collected in private and public collections, Chrsitine currently lives and paints in Brooklyn, New York.
